ONE OF THE BOYS

As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a powerhouse university.

But everything she's ever worked for is threatened when Ty Green moves to her school. Not only is he an amazing QB, but he's also amazingly hot. And for the first time, Jordan's feeling vulnerable. Can she keep her head in the game while her heart's on the line?

Review:
I wanted to love this book so bad. I'd heard such great things about this series and I was honestly pumped! Unfortunately, a combination of personal taste and over-hype made this one a disappointment. So sad!

I wanted to like our heroine, Jordan. I mean, she's a kick ass football quarterback! Unfortunately, she got on my nerves for a lot of the book. She was really judgmental and it drove me crazy. She did improve towards the end, but it was too late. Then she does some things that had me scratching my head in bewilderment.

I was hoping for a cast of secondary characters to save this one, but it just didn't happen. Ty annoyed me, Sam Henry pissed me off and Jordan's dad made me generally cranky.

My next issue is where the personal taste issues come in. I'm much more of an action girl than a romance girl. However, this book had a major focus on romance. As Jordan navigated the rough waters of romance, I was just itching for the next football game to arrive to break things up. And I don't even like football (or as my bf and I now call it: hand-egg)! This is totally not the books fault, as I'm sure fans of romance will enjoy these sections much more than me.

Overall, I was disappointed in Catching Jordan. I didn't enjoy the characters and I found the romance overpowering. That said, I do plan on continuing this  series and trying Stealing Parker because I want to make it to Racing Savannah, because, HORSES!!

  1. It sucks that this didn't work for you! But I see why--really dislike judgemental people. I've only read the latest book by this author which I liked well enough so I will lower my expectations when going into this one.

    Great review! <33

  2. Boo. I've had this in my Kindle pile forever. I'm sorry it was so disappointing. I don't think it's unrealistic to expect action from a heroine who plays football. I hope the next one is better!

  3. I've heard the same things about this particular book, not enough football and the main character being a bit inconsistent. Great review, I guess I won't be reading this one!

  4. Now I'm happy that I haven't bought this one. I really dislike judgmental people and I'm sure that Jordan and I wouldn't get along. So sorry it disappointed you and I hope your next read is much better :)

  5. I tried reading this one when it first came out but I just couldn't get into it. Or maybe I was turned off by all that hype? Oh well. lol! Great review!

  6. I was kind of curious about this one but now I don't think I want to read it. I was looking forward to reading about someone in sports (which is so rare in YA) but now that you mention the story is more of a romance, I'll pass. I am not a major romance reader either, I look for good characters or good plot, and this book doesn't seem like it will hold my attention.

    Great review!

  7. I have this on my shelf and I'm nervous to read it because 1. I am not the biggest romance fan, I like a book to be about more than the romance & 2. I don't like football and don't even know how American football is played. I will keep my expectations low and hopefully it won't disappoint too much ;) Thanks for the honest review.

  8. Aww, well that sucks. This is one of my favorite series. I adore all of the characters Kenneally writes, especially Sam and Jordan. If you didn't like this one ... I'm curious if you'd even like the rest. A lot of people feel this is the strongest of the series, but the 2nd book is my favorite. Now that one might piss you off. Saving Savannah takes place 4 years after the 3rd book, though, with a whole new set of characters. There are still connections to the first 3 books, though.

  9. I'm sorry you didn't like it. Miranda always focuses on romance so you have to be ready for that.
    Anyway, good review

  10. I am totally not a romance girl either, so I would agree fully with you!

  11. Aww, too bad. I get it though, it's hard to get into a book when you don't connect with any of the characters and find them frustrating. Like you, I'm not big on romance, but I still really want to read Saving Savannah because of the inclusion of horses. I can't remember if you've read The Scorpio Races yet? You simply must if you haven't!

  12. I know what you mean about the football, I was expecting much more focus on football and I wasn't thrilled with the way Jordan jumped into bed. I hope you continue the series, I think Kenneally tackles some important issues in Parker and the third book the name escapes me but that one is my favorite.

  13. I have to admit, this is my least favourite out of the books in this series, but for me, I was bothered more by the sex aspect. I just found the behaviour that the characters had towards sex to be appalling...especially Jordan. I thought they just didn't take it seriously at all, and Jordan definitely was a bit judgmental. She was pretty harsh towards other girls, which made it even weirder that she was so eager to just throw away her virginity. But, I did enjoy the sports aspect. I'm a fan of sports romances though, and I love romances, too. ;)

I hope you enjoy the others in the series though! I definitely think you'll like Racing Savannah. Savannah's been my favourite of Miranda Kenneally's narrators so far! I have a feeling you're gonna hate Kate from The Things I Can't Forget though...she's super judgey, but I did still like her, and once she realized that she was judgmental, she did get better. :P I like that while I don't always "love" Miranda's main characters at first, they do grow on me, and if I dislike them at first, I feel like she does well showing what has made them act a certain way. :)

  14. Yikes, I don't think I'll read this one now. I do like romance, but I've got to ship it or it'll just annoy me, and characters are everything, and they just sound annoying, and I hate judgmental characters that don't have any good points. Probably, I'd hate it, so you just saved me some time. ;)

  15. So sorry you didn't like this one more, they really are all about the romance (all of the books in the series) so if that isn't your thing I can see why you would be disappointed.
