Friday 56 - Tomorrow Land Edition

Friday 56 is a fun meme from Freda's Voice.
Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56.
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
*Post it.

This week my Friday 56 comes from Tomorrow Land by Mari Mancusi.

"The shelves nearby were stacked with discounted electronics, yellow bouncy ball signs declaring which products were currently - or four years ago, in this case - on special. A long row of checkouts, manned by silent cash register sentinels, stretched off into the distance. In short, it was a barren wasteland of dust-caked commercialism, a vivid reminder of how the world once was."

I haven't done a Friday 56 in quite a while. Fridays in March were dedicated to the Review Copy Cleanup and last Friday was Good Friday, but now I'm back to it! This week's Friday 56 comes from The White Oak by Kim White.

"We choose our fate, Cora. Nothing is an accident." She examines her fingernails, and the ruby ring glows deep red in the gray twilight. The jewel is mesmerizing, and we both admire it for a moment.

Friday 56 - The Keeper of the Isis Light Edition

This week for Friday 56, I'm doing The Keeper of the Isis Light by Monica Hughes (the other books I'm reading are on kindle, so it's a little harder to find page 56).

Because I talked about this book yesterday, I wanted to show an alternative cover
"She looked down the long valley towards the village on the east bank of the lake. There were Tens of little black figures swarming around like fire ants, but none of them was recognizably Mark."

Friday 56 - Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Edition

So I've joined in on another meme: Friday 56 from Freda's Voice.

Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56.
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
*Post it.

This week I decided to continue with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Here's my Friday 56 Pick:

"A fortunate chance had recommended him [Mr. Collins] to Lady Catherine de Bourgh, who had been forced to behead her previous rector when he succumbed to the walking death."

I really wanted a zombie quote, but this was the closest thing I could find on page 56!
