Researching TRAGIC

I have to be honest—I did very little research for this book.  I’ve never worked in the modeling industry and I have no model friends. Pretty much everything in this book was made up. But it’s funny, because right about the same time I came up with this story I received a review request for my book blog from a former fashion model.  I accepted her book for review (It’s called Arabelle’s Shadows) and I did learn a lot about the inner psyche of models through that book. I found it very eye-opening.

What’s probably surprising is that the most intense research I had to do was regarding the cherry trees and whether or not they would thrive at Denver’s elevation.  I know they can, I have a wild variety in my yard and I live about a thousand feet higher than Denver, but altitude does weird things to trees, so I had to make sure that the cherry trees would be blooming at the time I say they are in the book. They bloom very late here in Colorado. 

The whole reason I wrote this book was because I could not wrap my head around the idea that models that appear on those really smexy covers were not in some way turned on.  So I just started making it up.  Rook is confused, and I think this is an honest emotion. I’d be confused if I were doing that kind of work.  And I think Ronin almost compounds the confusion by appearing to be such a great guy. Is she supposed to fall for him? Or is this just a job? Is he good? Or bad?

Unfortunately, I never got my answer about whether or not the chemistry is genuine during those sexy real-life photoshoots. But I did look at some erotic photography websites and found all kinds of tips on how models should appear for the creepy photographer the day of the shoot. 

The tips included making sure to shave anal hair properly.  Eeek!  :)

About the Author:

J. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).
