Blog Tour: Scion of the Sun

I'm excited to share a guest post with you from Nicola Marsh, author of Scion of the Sun! I'm always interested by the research authors do for their books and I love to hear about all the cool stuff they've learned along the way. Read on for the guest post, some info about her new book and a giveaway!

10 (or whatever number really) Things I Learned While Writing Scion of the Sun

1. Crystals have so many uses.

2. Tom Welling is perfect inspiration for a sexy warrior.

3. Everything does revolve around the sun.

4. The Celtic calendar is based on solar equinoxes.

5. Ogham (ancient Celtic alphabet) represents sacred trees.

6. Biokinetics can alter human DNA.

7. Astral projection/teleporting means you get to meet hot guys in two planes of existence.

8. Sororities aren’t so bad.

9. Clairsentience means you can see the future, not the past.

10. World building is incredibly hard work.

A language based on sacred trees?! That sounds pretty awesome to me. I'm a big fan of the Celts actually. Thanks so much to Nicola for being on my blog today and I hope you enjoy the rest of the tour.

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

Synopsis:

Rook Walsh is TRAGIC

Because life so far – just sucks.  Some girls get parents.  Rook got the foster care system.  Some girls get Prince Charming.  Rook got an abusive frog.  Some girls get lucky…

Rook got a second chance.

And she took it.  Because when fate throws you a bone – you grab it with both hands and run.

Antoine Chaput knows the minute he spies Rook in his photography studio that she’s got The Look.  The dark and desperate look he must have to land the exclusive TRAGIC media contract.

Rook is paired up with top model, Ronin, and he’s everything her abusive ex-boyfriend wasn’t. Patient, gentle, happy, attentive, and sexy!  He knows exactly what to do to make Rook blush for Antoine’s portfolio.

Rook’s luck changes in an instant and suddenly she’s the darling of the modeling world.  It’s a dream job to go with a dream guy and all she has to do is look pretty and follow directions. But there’s always a price to pay – and Rook is about to get the bill.

TRAGIC is a new adult contemporary romance.

Guest Post:

Researching TRAGIC

I have to be honest—I did very little research for this book.  I’ve never worked in the modeling industry and I have no model friends. Pretty much everything in this book was made up. But it’s funny, because right about the same time I came up with this story I received a review request for my book blog from a former fashion model.  I accepted her book for review (It’s called Arabelle’s Shadows) and I did learn a lot about the inner psyche of models through that book. I found it very eye-opening.

What’s probably surprising is that the most intense research I had to do was regarding the cherry trees and whether or not they would thrive at Denver’s elevation.  I know they can, I have a wild variety in my yard and I live about a thousand feet higher than Denver, but altitude does weird things to trees, so I had to make sure that the cherry trees would be blooming at the time I say they are in the book. They bloom very late here in Colorado.

The whole reason I wrote this book was because I could not wrap my head around the idea that models that appear on those really smexy covers were not in some way turned on.  So I just started making it up.  Rook is confused, and I think this is an honest emotion. I’d be confused if I were doing that kind of work.  And I think Ronin almost compounds the confusion by appearing to be such a great guy. Is she supposed to fall for him? Or is this just a job? Is he good? Or bad?

Unfortunately, I never got my answer about whether or not the chemistry is genuine during those sexy real-life photoshoots. But I did look at some erotic photography websites and found all kinds of tips on how models should appear for the creepy photographer the day of the shoot.

The tips included making sure to shave anal hair properly.  Eeek!  :)

Anal hair shaving tips? Oh my!

About the Author:

J. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).

She has an undergraduate degree in horses, (yes, really–Thank you, Colorado State University) and a master’s degree in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. She used to have a job driving around Colorado doing pretty much nothing but shooting the breeze with farmers, but now she just writes, runs the New Adult Addiction and Clean Teen Reads Book Blogs, and runs an online science classroom for homeschoolers.
