Synopsis:

A riveting new story from Cat Patrick, author of Forgotten and Revived.

17-year-olds Lizzie, Ella, and Betsey Best grew up as identical triplets... until they discovered a shocking family secret. They're actually closer than sisters, they're clones. Hiding from a government agency that would expose them, the Best family appears to consist of a single mother with one daughter named Elizabeth. Lizzie, Ella, and Betsey take turns going to school, attending social engagements, and a group mindset has always been a de facto part of life...

Then Lizzie meets Sean Kelly, a guy who seems to see into her very soul. As their relationship develops, Lizzie realizes that she's not a carbon copy of her sisters; she's an individual with unique dreams and desires, and digging deeper into her background, Lizzie begins to dismantle the delicate balance of an unusual family that only science could have created.

Review:

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about The Originals. It started off pretty good, but it never really featured anything special. I was constantly waiting to "get to the good part", but it just cruised along at a constant level for me.

I did enjoy reading about the sisters Ella, Lizzie and Betsy and the way that they shared one life was interesting. However, the why of it was a disappointment to me. I was expecting some crazy and insane secret, but the big reveal ended up feeling a bit ho-hum to me.

Also, Lizzie gave her complete trust to Sean so quickly! Maybe I'm secretive and a bit paranoid, but I would never tell all my secrets to a boy I knew a briefly as Lizzie knew Sean. Although, Sean did seem to be a pretty good guy overall.

Overall, The Originals wasn't a bad read by any means, but I really was hoping for more.

  1. That's too bad that it really didn't seem like anything special. I've read a few books like that where I just know they won't stick with me ... at least you gave it a try!

  2. Yes, I felt the exact same as you, unfortunately. I was hoping for a story with a bit more impact! It sounded soo cool, and it was a fun read and everything, but it could've been so much more. Ah, oh well.
