Megan Likes (New) Books (5) / Reading Through My Bookshelf

Megan Likes (New) Books

Megan Likes (New) Books is a personalize weekly meme inspired by In My Mailbox, Stacking the Shelves and Book Haul where I show off the new books and bookish items I've received lately.

I'm sad to say that this week I fell off the book-buying-ban wagon. There's a story behind it and the moral is basically not to go to Chapters. To start things off, I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier from Macmillan. Yay! But that meant that I needed to go pick up a copy of Ruby Red (book 1). This falls within one of the loopholes I built into the ban: I can buy books if they belong to a series that I already own a book from. So a trip to Chapters was in order. I was doing really well, ogling some pretty books nearby, but not being tempted. I almost made it past the sale table when I saw it. A hardback cover of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer for $6. I've been wanted to read this one for ages, especially with The Evolution of Mara Dyer coming out. It was the last one on the table and I caved.

I'm back on the wagon now and finding it hard to feel too guilty.

Books:

Sapphire Blue - Kerstin Gier - Thanks Macmillan Children's!
Ruby Red - Kerstin Gier
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer - Michelle Hodkin

eBooks:

Crewel - Gennifer Albin - Thanks to Faber & Faber and Netgalley!
Tempestuous - Kim Askew and Amy Helmes - Thanks to Merit Press and Netgalley
Midnight City - J. Barton Mitchell - Thanks St. Martin's Press and Netgalley!

Still creeping up. Ruby Red and Sapphire Blue are next on my list though and I'm hoping to make a dent during Christmas holidays.

  1. That is sage advice, Megan. Do not go to bookstores! Wait, aren't we all meeting at one soon? The horror! Leave the credit card at home!

I bought a TON of books this week and feel a little ridiculous. I think I need to implement a ban of some sort, especially since I now work at a library and am remembering all the awesome books I can get through them. I should save my money for a book in a series I own and love, or an author I love who releases a new book. All other books can be got through the library!

I've heard Ruby Red is super good! I had that out for a while but never did get to it. :(

    Enjoy your reading!

  9. I think that is a very good reason for a Chapters run! I have Ruby Red on my shelf but I haven't read it yet. The cover is gorgeous, hey? I saw Mara for $6 a while back and didn't get it and I am still kicking myself! Great short haul this week, Megan!
